Google will require financial services advertisers in the US and Canada to prove they’re authorized by a regulator or a recognized registry before running certain financial ads, from early 2027. The check sits on top of the identity verification Google already runs on advertisers and targets scammers who impersonate banks and other financial firms. Google first required this kind of verification in the UK in 2021 and extended it in June to every EU and EEA member state, so the program now covers 42 countries. Advertisers will get country-specific guidance on which registries and credentials count before enforcement begins.
