Meta’s infrastructure VP says firms have about 20 months to rebuild human-era systems for AI agents, as agent queries jump 30x

Meta VP of engineering Barak Yagour said companies have roughly 20 months to rebuild infrastructure built for humans into systems ready for AI agents, according to VentureBeat. Yagour said queries from agents against Meta's data systems surged 30-fold in one half, breaking three assumptions at once, capacity, identity, and velocity, as one engineer now spawns many agents that multiply system load. Meta built “trusted data environments” that let agents roam the data freely while sensitive fields stay masked and every output is traced to its source, preserving a human check. Reasoning models are pushing Meta toward real-time streaming and schema-aware storage, plus conversational recommendations that reason about a user's intent rather than matching keywords.
