Apple is building an enterprise AI server on its planned M8 Ultra chips, in a two-chip version and a four-chip version, to sell to AI developers, businesses, and governments, according to The Information. To link those chips it has considered NVLink Fusion, the switches, chiplets, and software Nvidia sells to companies building rival server chips, which would deepen a thaw between two companies that spent decades at odds. The server isn’t expected before 2029 and could be cancelled or ship without Nvidia, but new CEO John Ternus backed it when it started about a year ago. Demand is what’s pulling Apple in, since AI labs have bought tens of thousands of Mac minis and Mac Studios, and Mac was the company’s fastest-growing segment last quarter at $10.4B, up close to 29%.
