Meta settles trademark dispute with Motion Picture Association over PG-13 label on Instagram teen accounts

Meta agreed to substantially reduce its references to “PG-13” when describing its Instagram Teen Accounts content filters and add a disclaimer clarifying that the Motion Picture Association is not involved, resolving a cease-and-desist the MPA filed after Meta invoked the rating in October. The MPA had argued that Meta's use of the PG-13 label was misleading because Meta's automated content filters do not follow the curated, consensus-based review process used to assign film ratings. Meta said its underlying teen content policies are not changing, only the language used to describe them.
