Amazon launched the Amazon Youth Promise, pledging to fill 30,000 entry-level UK roles by 2030 with young people from places that have the fewest job opportunities. The jobs, which center on picking, packing, and shipping in Amazon’s operations network, pay over £31,000 a year to start and don’t require a CV or work experience. Amazon is also adding over 10,000 work placements plus programs aimed at the roughly one million young people in the UK who are neither working nor in school, under the UK’s Youth Guarantee program that Microsoft, Cisco, and IBM have also joined. The hiring push comes after Amazon cut about 30,000 corporate jobs over the past year as it restructured around AI, including roughly 1,000 more in early October.
