ChatGPT referred only 0.62% as many visits as Google organic search across 100 websites, according to SEO consultant Marie Haynes, who analyzed a year of GA4 data covering more than 145 million sessions. Counting every AI chatbot raised that to 0.73% of Google’s organic traffic. ChatGPT visitors did convert far more often, at 13.8% versus 3.02% for Google organic visitors on the 55 sites that tracked conversions, but Google organic still produced 27 times more conversions than all AI chatbots combined. Haynes, who called GEO a “distraction,” found that ChatGPT referrals stopped growing in August 2025 and have since declined.
