Meta is removing the Placements option from ad sets, which is what lets an advertiser keep a campaign out of specific spots such as Facebook search results or the in-stream slots between Reels, according to in-app notices that ads consultant Jon Loomer shared. Loomer said the option to exclude whole platforms is going as well, leaving Meta free to run any campaign across any of its apps and pick the spots it judges will perform, though Meta has given no date for either change. Meta has spent two years pushing advertisers toward its automated targeting, and Mark Zuckerberg told Stratechery last year that the end state is a business handing over an objective and a bank account and reading back the results, with no creative, targeting, or measurement of its own.
