MacKenzie Scott, the novelist, philanthropist, and ex-wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, has donated more than $26B since 2019 yet remains worth $42.7B because Amazon's share price has risen more than 47% since April 2021, adding $2.35B to her net worth year to date alone and outpacing her giving. Scott received roughly a 4% stake in Amazon upon divorcing Bezos in 2019 and has since sold or donated about 42% of those shares, worth around $12.6B, through her philanthropic platform Yield Giving, which makes unrestricted gifts recipients can spend however they choose, with recent major donations focused on HBCUs, DEI organizations, and disaster relief in areas where the Trump administration has cut funding. Despite donating roughly 40% of her net worth, Scott ranks as the third most generous philanthropist in America behind Warren Buffett and Bill and Melinda Gates, while Bezos has donated just $4.7B or about 1.7% of his $270B net worth.
