Macaroni Software speeds up SEO for Shopify store owners by 20x

WHAT'S NEXT: Learn how Sam Wright‘s Macaroni Software speeds up the SEO process for Shopify store owners by at least 20x.

What is Macaroni?

Macaroni is the only Shopify platform built for serious SEOs. It’s not a data dump like other tools – you can implement high value SEO work directly using our Shopify app and track the impact of each individual change. We've found it speeds up the SEO process by at least 20x.

Are you funded?

Yes, we're funded.

Who do you serve?

Macaroni is built for Shopify stores with larger product catalogues – usually over 100+ SKUS.

What's standout about Macaroni?

As we say, this is not a data dump. Macaroni helps you do real SEO work faster, and shows the direct impact on sales. We've seen YoY revenue increase by 145% in as little as 30 days for some projects.

What's next at Macaroni?

We started only onboarding our first users in January but the reception has been fantastic. We can see there's a real appetite for the platform, and our users are telling us load and clear what they want to see next.

Macaroni already automates tasks like keyword research, internal linking, on-page optimisation and creating new pages. We are now working on new features like schema generation, SERP analysis and tracking/attribution auditing. With all of this though we're sticking to our goal of rapid implementation – suggestions can turned into live updates on a store in just a few clicks.

As we build up more user data, the potential is becoming clearer too. Soon we'll be to not only suggest changes but predict their impact on traffic and sales. We are also using reinforcement learning to improve keyword research and other recommendations.

What's next in your niche?

With SGE – Google's AI search results – on the horizon, there's going to be another shakeup in the world of SEO. We are addressing this with our upcoming features (particularly around schema) but there's still a degree of uncertainty of how SERPs will actually change.

For us the though, the biggest trend is the continuing democratisation of SEO.

Platforms such as Shopify by default are handling SEO better and better, SEO knowledge is more evenly distributed (particular with in-house teams) and AI means everyone can do things that they couldn’t do before.

All this adds up to a world where SEO is increasingly commoditised. And to operate in a commoditised market, you have to be able to deliver better and cheaper than anyone else. That is what we are trying to do with Macaroni.

Who should I interview next?

Murray Vanwyk for sure – he's trying to bring enterprise level data analysis to ecom SMEs.

Similarly Timo Dechau. Tracking and attribution is complicated, and there's loads of businesses and tools out there that are selling snake oil. There's not many more credible than Timo though.

What's one thing you wish more people paid attention to in the world?

In SEO, it's the needs of business owners. I think there's an unwillingness to answer difficult questions (“will it work?”, “what is the ROI?” etc) because of the complexities around showing impact. GA/GSC data is flawed, and Google is a black box.

Just because it's hard though doesn't mean that we shouldn't try, or that these problems can't be solved. We've tried to look outside the SEO world for skills to address this, such as academia and enterprise software.
