Etsy’s updated terms, which take effect December 16, let the company and its partners and vendors use sellers’ listing photos, descriptions, reviews, and forum posts to train AI models, according to Liz Morton at Value Added Resource. The terms mention opt-out rights, but neither the terms nor the privacy policy gives US sellers a way to keep their content out of training while still selling, and since the license never expires, deleting a listing may not end it. Etsy said it wants the content to improve seller tools, search, and fraud detection. At the same time, Etsy is barring outside companies from training AI on its data without permission and reserving the right to block AI shopping agents, which may have to identify themselves and whoever they act for.
