eBay promotes its AI listing tools as leveling the field for small sellers while the flagship version stays closed to them

eBay published a Main Street post arguing its AI tools level the playing field for small businesses, pointing to more than 10M sellers who have used generative AI features to build over 300M listings. Liz Morton at Value Added Resource tested the newest Magical Listing and found it misread a photo of a sea turtle mousepad as a ceramic plaque, then as a refrigerator magnet, pushing errors through the title, category, and item specifics. That version is open only to new, reactivated, and casual sellers on the app, so the business sellers the post is about can't use it. eBay also promoted an AI tool that turns listing photos into social videos, though it has been paused since October 2025. Sellers stay responsible for accuracy whether they typed a listing or eBay's software generated it.
