WHAT'S NEXT: Learn how Jarek Ostrowski created a new category of made-on-demand products with Distro, a producer of high quality wood decor that you can sell without inventory.

What is Distro?

Distro makes wood wall decor anyone can sell, without inventory. You can add our products to your Shopify store or TikTok shop and when orders come in, we make, pack, and ship them right to your customers. You market and sell them, and we make and ship them.

Are you funded?

No, we're bootstrapped.

Who do you serve?

We're perfect for e-commerce brands already selling print on demand products.

What's standout about Distro?

We make the actual products instead of just print on them.

What's next at Distro?

We just launched our core product, where anyone can sell our wall decor in their Shopify store or TikTok shop. You just connect your stores, select the products you want to sell, and when orders come in, we make, pack, and ship them right to your customers.

It also doesn't cost anything. We don't require a paid subscription and we only charge you the wholesale cost when you make a sale and the label cost when we ship it to your customer.

We're continuing to add new designs daily based on feedback and if brands have specific requests, we can work with them to make that happen.

What's next in your niche?

Home decor is the fastest growing segment in print on demand, so there's a lot of opportunity ahead. I'm really excited to see how our customers utilize this new medium and how that shapes us going forward.

From a macro level, I've been thinking a lot about how AI is reducing headcounts and how it's going to displace a lot of people over the next decade. That's going to result in more and more people looking for tools and creative ways to earn money and I believe we're providing a new way for them to do that, without the risk. Print on demand and dropshipping is already growing like crazy and I could see AI being even more of a catalyst.

Who should I interview next?

I’ve been following Filip Rakowski, he’s co-founder at Alokai (previously Vue Storefront), they create Vue based composable commerce tools. I think composable commerce is interesting from a development perspective.

What's one thing the public doesn't know about your professional background that has led you to this point in your career?

I worked as a Product Designer and Frontend Developer at a tech company before leaving to start a furniture brand, making home office products out of my garage. I needed to scale the business and I didn't want to spend $150k on a commercial space, so I hired people from across the country to make my products for me, on demand. I built the software to make the process seamless and now I'm utilizing that model to make products for others through Distro.
