Bridgewater managing CIO Greg Jensen says any company holding more than roughly 5% of US or global compute should be designated systemically important and regulated the way the largest banks are, according to Dakin Campbell at The Information. He also wants hard limits on how much any one entity can own, pointing out that position caps already exist on commodity futures, and says it isn’t clear whether current law covers compute or whether Congress has to write new rules. Jensen projects that OpenAI and Anthropic will hold 35% to 50% of global compute within two years. He argues that reining in the frontier labs alone won’t work, since Bridgewater itself gets strong results training open-source models with reinforcement learning, and nobody can see what anyone else is doing with them.
