Dulo, a San Francisco startup building AI models that design and validate engineering work like planes and cars from a written prompt, raised a $130M seed round backed by former Google CEO Eric Schmidt and Kleiner Perkins chairman John Doerr, according to The Information. Dulo was co-founded earlier this year by Sebastian Thrun, who founded Google’s X division and launched the self-driving car effort that grew into Waymo, and serial founder Adrian Aoun, whose AI health startup Torch was acquired by OpenAI this year. Dulo plans to produce the designs and leave manufacturing to other companies, which puts it up against Jeff Bezos’ Prometheus and Larry Page’s Dynatomics, also building AI for engineering.
