Apple published a rulebook for its upcoming Apple Maps ads, taking a more curated line than Google, according to TechCrunch. Ads are limited to businesses with a physical location customers visit, such as restaurants, shops, hotels, salons, and clinics, with medical-services ads reviewed case by case. Its ban list, effective July 14, covers home-services trades like plumbing, HVAC, roofing, and locksmith work, plus crypto ATMs and bail-bonds providers, unlike Google, where home services are a top local ad category. Apple Maps ads, announced this year for a “this summer” US and Canada launch, will show a single labeled ad per search, marked with a blue halo, with interaction data kept on the device.
