Anthropic's Claude is winning a growing share of paying AI consumers, a market ChatGPT dominates, with credit-card transaction data from analytics firm Indagari showing Claude's paid consumer segment up about 75% since January 2026, according to TechCrunch. The figures suggest Anthropic has a broader consumer base than the developer-and-enterprise niche it's usually tied to through Claude Code, with gains continuing after a March spike following its refusal to let the Trump administration use its models for surveillance and autonomous weapons. Education platform DataCamp adds a second signal, saying “Claude” is now its most-searched term, ahead of “AI” itself, with consumer demand for Claude courses outpacing ChatGPT three to one. ChatGPT still leads nearly every measure, but the data points to Claude closing the gap on consumer dollars.
