Anthropic asked a federal judge to throw out two claims in the $3B lyrics case brought in January by Concord Music Group, Universal Music Publishing Group, and ABKCO over 20,000-plus songs it allegedly torrented from pirate libraries. Anthropic argued the complaint, covering roughly 21,000 works, never cites one instance of Claude reproducing a lyric, and asked that the output claim be dismissed with prejudice. Anthropic also moved to kill the DMCA count, saying the statute reaches only the stripping of copyright data from a complete work and the publishers never allege it held their full compositions. Dario Amodei filed separately to get the direct infringement count against him dropped. Anthropic did not move against the torrenting and training claims, which it is still contesting.
