SUSE, the enterprise Linux company owned by private equity firm EQT, is laying off about 10% of its roughly 1,900 employees, according to an internal memo seen by The Register. CEO Dirk-Peter van Leeuwen wrote that AI is changing how software companies work and that SUSE’s current structure and costs won’t carry it forward, since new tools have “greatly diminished” the need for some roles. The memo didn’t say which jobs are affected, but staff will learn by November 4 whether they’re losing their roles. The layoffs come after SUSE asked longtime employees in September to consider leaving voluntarily.
