Anthropic hired Robert Mahari as head of Claude for Legal, a job centered on driving adoption at law firms, in-house departments, and legal tech vendors rather than on building the product. Mahari has a JD-PhD in legal AI from Harvard Law School and the MIT Media Lab, and he was previously associate director at Stanford’s CodeX Center for Legal Informatics. Claude for Legal launched in May with 12 practice-area plugins covering corporate, employment, and privacy work, plus more than 20 MCP connectors wiring Claude into DocuSign, iManage, LexisNexis, Westlaw, and other tools law firms already run. Writing on LinkedIn, Mahari said the profession should keep legal education and wider access to the courts at the center of the shift.
