Anthropic has joined Frontier, the carbon-removal coalition that advance-purchases credits from early-stage removal companies, becoming the first pure AI company to do so alongside founding members Stripe, Google, and Shopify. Its pledge anchors a new $915M tranche that nearly doubles Frontier's total commitments to $1.8B, money the group uses to vet and contract removal projects so members can offset emissions they cannot yet eliminate. The deal is Anthropic's first climate-related move, and it comes as AI companies pour money into energy to power data centers, not all of it clean. Anthropic has yet to publish a sustainability report and has said it favors an “all of the above” energy approach.
