Ben Bernanke, the former Federal Reserve Chairman and Nobel-winning economist, joined Anthropic’s long-term benefit trust, a governance body that oversees whether the company holds to its public mission. He will advise on AI’s societal and economic impact, including its potential to displace white-collar jobs and worries that heavy AI spending is inflating a financial bubble. Trustees hold no financial stake but can appoint and remove a majority of Anthropic’s corporate board and advise management on major decisions, including AI’s risks. Anthropic, valued near $1T and expected to go public later this year, plans to add a fifth trustee alongside Bernanke and three current members.
