Amazon launched three Alexa-branded tablets priced from $230 to $550 and stopped making its budget Fire tablets, including the $155 Fire HD 10. The new 8-inch, 11-inch, and 12-inch models run standard Google Android instead of Amazon’s Fire OS, so buyers get the full Android app catalog, and they add aluminum backs, sharper screens, and faster chips. A new On-Screen Intelligence feature lets Alexa act on whatever is displayed, such as tracking down and buying a burger press that devices chief Panos Panay spotted in a TikTok cooking video during a demo. Amazon has long sold devices near cost to drive shopping and subscriptions, but under Andy Jassy it has been pushing pricier hardware, and its $550 top model now costs more than an entry-level $449 iPad.
