Amazon has been letting some shoppers read only eight customer reviews per product after its anti-scraping systems flagged them as bots, according to Jared Newman at Fast Company. Customers get no notice, and one was told by a chat agent that he had “violated Amazon's Conditions of Use regarding data gathering.” Restoring access takes an email appeal and several business days, and both shoppers who described their cases said they don't use AI browsing tools. Amazon confirmed the restrictions target unauthorized scraping and suggested any lockouts were rare, but declined to say when they began, how many people they hit, or what sets them off. The company sued Perplexity in November over an AI agent that shops on users' behalf, and wouldn't say whether the two are related.
