Meta released Muse Spark Open, an open-weight version of its Muse Spark model that it worked with Apple to run locally on a pair of M5 Ultra Mac Studios using Apple’s MLX framework. Meta calls the 816-billion-parameter model “the most capable US open-weight model to date,” and it’s free to download from Hugging Face and the major clouds under a license that allows limited commercial use. The partnership is a rare truce for two companies that have fought for years over privacy, which this deal avoids because Meta can’t see prompts on a model running on the user’s own machine. Meta AI chief Alexandr Wang told Axios the teams spent months on the project, and that former Apple executive Daniel Gross, who’s now at Meta, played a big role in bringing them together.
