eBay blocks some sellers from setting Promoted Listings fixed ad rates below 5% ahead of Q4, though its help page still says 2%

eBay is rejecting some sellers’ attempts to set Promoted Listings General fixed ad rates below 5%, even though its help page still lists a 2% minimum, according to Liz Morton at Value Added Resource. The ad rate is the cut of the sale price a seller pays eBay when a promoted item sells, and sellers on forums and Facebook have posted errors saying it must be between 5% and 100%. Justin Glow, founder of reseller software company Flipwise, told eBay that only about 2% of his clients’ sub-5% listings were refused, while roughly 12,000 went through, and the same rate could be accepted on one listing and rejected on another. eBay hasn’t said whether it’s a glitch or a test, but in 2024 it raised the minimum for dynamic-rate ads from 2% to 5% without notice.
