Amazon seeks to sell about $8B of Nvidia chips to an investor-backed vehicle and lease them back to lighten its balance sheet

Amazon is talking to investors about selling roughly $8 billion of Nvidia Grace Blackwell chips to a new special-purpose vehicle and leasing them back, according to the Financial Times. The vehicle would raise its money by issuing debt to outside investors, and Amazon plans to offer them up to 10% of its equity. The chips, which Amazon either bought or leased, sit in more than 12 of its US data centers spread over five states, among them Nevada and Virginia. Moving them into the vehicle would let Amazon carry less of that hardware on its balance sheet while it keeps using the chips.
