Amazon is fighting New York City’s Intro 0518 with a commissioned economic analysis that puts the bill’s cost at $664 a year in added delivery charges per city household, according to Kristen Altus at Fox Business. Consulting firm AKRF produced the study for the Five Borough Jobs Campaign, an opposition coalition, modeling a full move of Amazon’s last-mile facilities out of the five boroughs, with per-package costs rising 267% and service levels falling 10% to 21%. Amazon says the bill threatens more than 40 of its delivery service partners and over 5,000 of their workers, though it told Fox it isn’t looking to leave the city. Mamdani’s office counters that subcontracting lets companies dictate hiring standards, routes, and productivity quotas while denying the drivers are their employees.
