TikTok Shop’s top 1% of sellers drive 60% of U.S. GMV, making it more top-heavy than Amazon, Marketplace Pulse finds

TikTok Shop’s top 1% of U.S. sellers account for 60% of tracked GMV, making the platform more top-heavy than the search-and-ad marketplaces it aimed to upend, according to Marketplace Pulse data on nearly 100,000 sellers. The concentration runs deeper than Amazon, where about 1.6% of sellers generate half of third-party GMV, while on TikTok Shop the top 0.1%, fewer than 90 sellers averaging over $100M in lifetime sales, capture more than a quarter, and the bottom half contribute roughly 0.1%. Platform curation compounds the gap, as badged Official Store sellers move about 40x the volume of unbadged ones, complicating TikTok Shop’s content-first pitch that viral discovery would let small brands skip the ad arms race, leaving a smaller circle of winners than promised.
