xAI, the operator of the Grok chatbot, is facing a class action lawsuit accusing it of sharing users' queries and data with third parties like Google, Meta, and TikTok without consent. Filed in California federal court by plaintiff Austin Skaggs, the complaint alleges xAI embedded those companies' tracking technology in Grok.com so that each query, its unique URL, page title, and metadata got passed along, including sensitive prompts about finances, health, and legal issues, and even when users opted out of cookies. The suit claims violations of federal and California privacy laws and seeks $5,000 per violation, and it lands as OpenAI faces a similar class action alleging ChatGPT shared user data with Meta and Google.
