Wealthsimple launched Penny, an AI assistant inside its app that drafts stock trades, wires, and e-transfers for customers to approve, about a week after the bulk of Canada’s big banks moved to keep third-party AI agents out of customer accounts, according to The Logic. Penny can’t browse the web or log into other banks, and it only sees data held at Wealthsimple, including outside accounts customers have already linked through data aggregators. Starting in early 2027, customers will also be able to connect ChatGPT and Claude to their accounts, choose how much access to give them, and approve any transaction back in Wealthsimple. Co-founder and chief product officer Brett Huneycutt said the banks are wrong to fight AI agents and should adopt more secure technology instead.
