USPS now expects Ground Advantage shipments going either way between the mainland and Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, or the other US territories to need 10 days or longer, after it moved parcels under a pound off planes and onto surface transportation as of October 1. The Postal Service said the change better fits the transportation it has and keeps more hazardous materials out of its air network. It also widened Priority Mail windows to those places from a three-day maximum to two to four days, or two to six days for Guam and the Pacific islands, though Priority Mail will travel the same way it did before. USPS’s holiday guide still lists December 16 as the Ground Advantage cutoff for Christmas delivery to these destinations, Liz Morton at Value Added Resource noted.
