UPS moved to a new global operating model on September 1 that standardizes processes across regions while leaving room for local market differences, part of its push to be an integrated logistics provider rather than a small package carrier. Nando Cesarone, previously president of the US business, takes over as chief global operations officer, while Matt Guffey moves from chief commercial and strategy officer to run the US domestic side. Wilfredo Ramos succeeds Kate Gutmann, who is retiring after nearly 37 years, atop the international, healthcare and supply chain unit, and UPS is still hiring a new chief global commercial strategy officer to own pricing and product management. The changes come just after UPS finished cutting low-margin Amazon volume and shrinking its US network in June.
