TikTok pauses a dating test that dropped users into live group chat rooms with singles in the US and a few other markets

TikTok is pausing a dating test that put users into live group chat rooms with other singles, according to Dan Whateley and Sydney Bradley at Business Insider. The option sat in the app’s hangout section for multi-guest streams and went out to a slice of US users along with a handful of other markets. Some of the rooms had nothing to do with dating and others turned sexual. TikTok said only creators over 18 can host a livestream and that the dating streams weren’t recommended to anyone who didn’t already follow the host. Livestream blind dates have taken off on Douyin, ByteDance’s app in China, and what works there often shows up on TikTok later.
