TikTok partners with the Sundance Institute on a four-week course to train creators in writing short-form microdramas

TikTok is launching a four-week live online course with the Sundance Institute to teach creators how to write serialized short-form microdramas, the soap-opera-style series that have caught on with its audience. The program will select participants based on their TikTok work and interest in the format, giving them scriptwriting frameworks and industry guidance.

It builds on TikTok's bigger push into the format, which generated $1.3B in the U.S. in 2025 mostly through direct viewer payments, following its in-app Minis section last year and a dedicated microdrama app, PineDrama, that launched in the U.S. and Brazil in early 2026. Applications are open globally on the Sundance Collab site.
