The UK’s CMA is seeking public comments on eBay’s planned $1.2B Depop acquisition from Etsy, with submissions open until May 8

The UK's Competition and Markets Authority opened a public comment period on eBay's planned $1.2B acquisition of Depop from Etsy, inviting interested parties to submit competition concerns by May 8, 2026, after which the CMA will decide whether to launch a formal investigation. The scrutiny follows a similar review launched by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission earlier this month, with Liz Morton of Value Added Resource noting that both regulators may pay close attention to eBay's separate ownership of Tise, a Norwegian secondhand fashion app acquired in 2025 that recently launched in Australia and appears to already have some UK-based sellers, raising questions about eBay's growing consolidation of the online secondhand fashion market. Tise follows a similar fee-free seller model as Depop, charging buyers a service fee instead, mirroring fee structure changes eBay has already rolled out in Germany, the UK, and Australia.
