Stripe is reportedly exploring a whole or partial acquisition of PayPal as the public company is grappling with an 80% stock decline since 2021. Stripe secured a new valuation of $159 billion via a share tender offer while simultaneously reporting that it processed $1.9 trillion in payments last year, while PayPal holds a market cap of around $43.5B. A spokesperson declined to comment on the potential deal, which would significantly surpass Stripe’s $1.1 billion purchase of stablecoin firm Bridge.
