Snap reached a tentative agreement to settle the second case headed for trial over claims that major social media platforms are addictive to minors, according to Bloomberg. Terms were not disclosed, and a Snap spokesperson confirmed the deal without further comment. Google’s YouTube and TikTok had already settled with the same plaintiff, known as R.K.C., which leaves Meta as the only defendant facing a jury when the trial opens next week in Los Angeles. Meta, Google, Snap, and TikTok are collectively fighting more than 3,000 individual complaints from users and their families over addiction and related harm. Jurors in the first of those cases to reach trial found Meta and Google liable for a 20-year-old woman’s mental health struggles and awarded her a total of $6M in damages.
