Shopee shifts affiliate-commission tax reporting onto Brazilian sellers as TikTok Shop raises its per-item fee by up to 50%

Shopee, controlled by Singapore’s Sea Group, will shift responsibility for reporting taxes on affiliate and influencer commissions onto its Brazilian sellers starting August 1, according to Valor. Sellers must now issue a Self-Employed Payment Receipt for each affiliate service and leave tax filing to the affiliates, a process Shopee previously handled by withholding income, social-security, and municipal service taxes itself. TikTok Shop’s Brazilian arm is separately raising seller fees from July 15, lifting the commission on sub-R$50 items from 6% to 10% and raising the flat per-item fee 50% to R$6 on items above R$50. Both changes follow March fee hikes by Shopee and Mercado Libre, as Brazil’s marketplaces chase profitability after years of prioritizing growth.
