Salesforce has signed a deal to acquire m3ter, a London metering and billing platform, to add native consumption-based billing to its Agentforce Revenue Management for undisclosed terms. The acquisition addresses a billing problem AI agents create, when one agent does the work of ten employees, selling ten per-seat licenses stops making sense, so software has to charge by usage instead. m3ter ingests product usage data in near real time, applies pricing rules, and outputs billable charges to whatever CRM or invoicing system a company runs, with customers including Paddle and Sift. It’s the latest in a run of Salesforce buys assembling its AI agent stack, after Contentful for content and the $8B Informatica deal for data, though investors, who nudged the stock down on the news, are still waiting for proof that consumption-based AI revenue can scale.
