Round Hill Music sues Suno and Anthropic over songs used to train their models, with damages the publisher puts above $1B

Round Hill Music sued Suno and Anthropic on Monday over more than 500 of its songs in each case, including “Iris,” “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” and “I Got You (I Feel Good),” all of which it says the two companies copied to train their models. Round Hill expects to expand both cases to thousands more songs and says damages could pass $1B. Suno has already been sued over the same practice by Universal, Warner, and Sony, though Warner settled in November and licensed its catalog to the company while the other two keep litigating. CEO Josh Gruss said Round Hill has nothing against AI but objects to companies building businesses worth billions on other people’s work and paying creators nothing, and that it will try both cases rather than settle for anything that shortchanges songwriters.
