OpenAI released the Codex Micro, a $230 light-up keyboard co-designed with specialty maker Work Louder to manage its Codex AI coding agents. Codex Micro adds light-up “Agent Keys” for tracking each agent’s status, “Command Keys” as custom shortcuts, a joystick for launching workflows, and a dial for setting an agent’s “reasoning” level, all run through the ChatGPT desktop app. OpenAI called it a limited-run collaboration and more a novelty than a mass-market product, its first step into hardware. Its debut lands as OpenAI’s bigger hardware bet takes shape, a screenless, portable smart speaker still in development, and amid Apple’s lawsuit accusing OpenAI of stealing trade secrets for its devices.
