OpenAI is planning to turn ChatGPT into an all-purpose “super app” that merges its products into a single agentic interface, a push led by newly promoted core-product head Thibault Sottiaux as the company heads toward a trillion-dollar IPO. The plan folds Codex, now general enough to handle work beyond coding, into ChatGPT to power an assistant that remembers what users care about and handles tasks from quick questions to planning and booking a full trip. The reorganization came alongside the shutdown of side projects like the Sora video product and a pullback from Stargate data-center commitments in the UK and Norway, with the super app partly meant to convince IPO investors that OpenAI is more than a chatbot company. The move also sharpens its enterprise fight against Anthropic, which recently crossed ahead in US business adoption at 34.4% versus OpenAI's 32.3%, driven largely by Claude Code.
