OpenAI must tell Apple which devices, accounts, and messaging apps former Apple employees Chang Liu and OpenAI chief hardware officer Tang Tan used to keep Apple’s confidential information, after Judge Edward Davila granted more of Apple’s early discovery requests in its trade secrets suit. Apple sued in July, alleging former staff took confidential files to OpenAI as it builds its own hardware. OpenAI also has to say how Liu and Tan used AI tools, whether any Apple information was destroyed, what it did to keep that information out of its work, and what came up when it interviewed Apple employees for jobs. Davila gave OpenAI 14 days to comply, but he refused Apple access to OpenAI’s own internal investigation and pushed some broader testimony requests to ordinary discovery.
