OpenAI merges ChatGPT’s Chat and Work tabs, starting with select users, and puts ChatGPT and Codex on one shared usage allowance

OpenAI is combining the Chat and Work tabs in the ChatGPT desktop app, starting with a group of users who’ll give feedback before it reaches everyone, the company told users in an email. In the merged view, people can pull in their files and plugins and have ChatGPT take a task from idea to finished work, such as a website, a presentation, or errands on the web, while Codex stays a separate section of the app. ChatGPT and Codex will also start drawing from one token allowance, and OpenAI said that while most users won’t notice, some will wait for limit resets more often depending on their usage and models. Anthropic brought chat and Cowork together in one Claude interface in September.
