OpenAI is in early talks to buy Trail of Bits, a security firm that finds and fixes bugs in open-source code, according to The Information, which couldn’t learn the price and said the talks could still fall apart. The two companies already work together on Patch the Planet, a project launched in June in which Trail of Bits engineers use OpenAI’s Codex tools to repair flaws in projects like Python. OpenAI wants to build a cybersecurity business, and this year it has been racing Anthropic to develop AI models that can spot software vulnerabilities.
