Super PACs tied to OpenAI and Anthropic have spent $55.7 million on the 2026 midterms, almost all of it in primaries for safe seats, according to the New York Times, which went through their FEC filings. The money flows from OpenAI-aligned Leading the Future and Anthropic-aligned Public First Action into four groups, one Republican and one Democratic on each side, which have put about $28 million behind 21 Democrats and close to $19 million behind 30 Republicans, and their candidates almost always won. Of 95 ads the Times reviewed, only seven mentioned AI or an AI company and none mentioned data centers, with most pitching candidates on unrelated issues like crime or immigration.
