Shopify bought the SHOP.COM domain from Market America, a Greensboro, North Carolina, direct-selling company, for an undisclosed price. Market America acquired the domain in 2011 and ran it as its main shopping site for 15 years, then moved its brands and sellers to a rebuilt MarketAmerica.com on Shopify on September 22, days before it announced the sale. Shopify hasn’t said what it plans to do with the domain, though it already runs its consumer shopping app and accelerated checkout under the Shop and Shop Pay names.
