Meta told employees this week that performance reviews will no longer depend on how much they use AI tools, according to WIRED. The new guidance drops references to AI usage and the “AI Native” designation and replaces them with a caveat that outcomes “can be supported by AI or other means,” and engineers were separately told the company won’t grade impact on token counts or AI adoption dashboards, per The Information. Those metrics sit at the center of a July lawsuit from about two dozen employees who say Meta’s May layoffs penalized staff on medical or parental leave, who had no way to run up usage. Meta denies the allegations, and a spokesperson told WIRED the labels were never used to evaluate performance. Employees say their token consumption is climbing anyway as they test Hatch.
