About 50 MEPs behind France’s Stéphanie Yon-Courtin want the Commission to close its Digital Services Act case against Meta, order it to give European minors the protections it accepted in the US, and if necessary ask the EU courts to suspend Facebook and Instagram until it complies. Meta’s August settlement with US states caps under-18 use at two hours a day and shuts the apps from midnight to 6am unless a parent overrides it, but that deal sets no precedent outside the signatory states or in any international jurisdiction, and Meta is contesting the Commission’s July findings on the same addictive design. The Commission denies dragging its feet, with spokesperson Thomas Regnier saying it reached comparable conclusions in two years against three years of US litigation.
