Meta settled the social media addiction claims of an 18-year-old Mississippi woman identified as K.D.B. for undisclosed terms, days after jury selection began in Los Angeles in the second bellwether trial over whether platforms are built to be addictive. K.D.B. had already settled with TikTok and YouTube, and a 16-year-old Illinois plaintiff in the same trial had settled with Meta before it started, which leaves Snap as the last company facing a jury. Evan Spiegel, Snap’s CEO, will likely take the stand for the first time in one of these trials, and Snap says the case misrepresents an app that opens to a camera instead of a feed.
